play Can't Get Out Of My Own Way

from Painting A Moving Train BUY iTunes

Greg and his dad were energetically playing a video game one night when his dad proclaimed, "I can't get out of my own way!" Greg ran off to find a pen and write this introspective song as his dad's point tally continued to grow in the other room, unhindered by anyone but himself.

I can't let me be today
My start up is shutting me down
If I believed what they all say
I'd be up and leaving this town
I'd be up and leaving this town

Chorus:
And the highways
And the by ways
Are where they'll have to stay
And these mercy me's
Have got me worried you see
I just can't get out of my own way

The birds have nests
And the fox have holes
But my heart has nowhere to rest
This wind keeps blowing far away from my home
And this heart keeps breaking in my chest
And this heart keeps breaking in my chest

(Chorus)

No matter where I go I'm always there
No refuge in my life to be found
Just digging a hole in a devil's lair
And these troubles try to put me in the ground
And these troubles try to put me in the ground

(Chorus)
